Welcome to Sado Island Taiko Centre (Tatakokan)
Made with local timber, Sado Island Taiko Centre (Tatakokan) radiates with warmth and the feel-good vibrations of taiko—Japanese drums.
Step inside and you’ll be greeted by two enormous taiko, hand carved from a 600-year-old Japanese Zelkova tree. A large collection of smaller taiko flank the walls, always on standby for fun.
When you play taiko, you experience the sound with your whole body.
Feel, see, hear, and touch the sound as it echoes out from the drums. It’s an immersive, soul-stirring experience.

We offer experiences developed by Kodo, the world-renowned taiko ensemble based here on Sado Island. Harnessing over four decades of experience playing taiko and touring the globe, our experiences are a chance to play taiko and to connect with others through play.

T's Cafe
Located inside Sado Island Taiko Centre, T’s Cafe serves tasty drinks and treats with great views. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the afterglow of your taiko experience, staring out to sea with a cup of coffee or Sado’s homegrown Nishimikawa apple juice.
Fukaura Schoolhouse
Fukaura Schoolhouse is a training facility near Sado Island Taiko Centre that has meal and lodging options. We regularly use its gymnasium as an alternative venue for School Excursion Taiko Experiences. It’s a great venue for camps, workshops, and more.
